This is an introductory course for ETA/MEA apprentices which covers the basics of College Algebra. This course is meant to get students familiar with and gain competency in algebra and various techniques used to solve algebraic equations. A basic understanding of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division is the only requirement needed upon entering this course. The course is intended to serve students who will work directly with electrical equipment or on behalf of those who do; the topics covered will give students the ability to solve mathematical problems they may face on the job. Topics covered include but are not limited to fundamental concepts of algebra, functions, polynomials, exponential and logarithmic functions, systems of equations, and complex numbers. This course will consist of 6 modules, 2 quizzes, and 1 final exam. Module availability is open and can be completed at the student’s individual pace. Project and assignments will be completed in groups. Assignments will be due approximately every 1-2 weeks depending on the assignment and module availability. The final project will be evaluated within 1 week of submission. Communication will take place primarily via email and instructor announcements. At the end of the course, you would have learned the fundamentals of the various programs in College Algebra.

Welcome to Fundamentals of AC/DC Power and Circuits.

This course will provide an introduction to the principles of circuitry and power systems. Modules go in-depth with topics regarding an introduction to Circuit Analysis, element response of DC Circuits, AC Circuit Analysis, Power System Analysis, and Transmission/Distribution of power. Participants will take away a college-level understanding of the mathematics  and concepts involved in power generation, delivery, and respective circuits.

This is an introductory course on the Fundamentals of Semiconductor Devices and Electronics. The course benefits apprentices studying for the MEA/ETA Exam. No prior experience with semiconductor or electronic devices are needed. This course will be given in conjunction with the DC and AC Circuits course; therefore, the basic yet necessary concepts of circuit design and analysis will be used in this course. Topics covered include semiconductor material properties, PN-Junctions, biasing, photogeneration, diodes, BJTs, and MOSFETs/IGBTs. This course will consist of 5 modules, 1 midterm, and 1 final project. Module availability is open and can be completed at the student’s individual pace. Project and assignments will be completed in groups. Assignments will be due approximately every 1-2 weeks depending on the assignment and module availability. It provides the basic understanding of effective business communications, business writings and the tools and techniques needed for learning and practicing communication as a skill. Topics covered include improving verbal and written communications, understanding language, writing style and developing presentations. This course will consist of 5 modules, 1 midterm exam and 1 final exam. Module availability is open and can be completed at the student’s individual pace. Project and assignments will be completed in groups. Assignments will be due approximately every 1-2 weeks depending on the assignment and module availability. This is a High School/ GED-level course that covers the fundamentals of digital data communication. It provides the working definition of the functions, the design criteria and the tools and techniques, and the technology needed for learning digital data communications. Topics covered include data communications, signals and systems, bandwidth, Implementing TCP/IP models, and signal encoding and transmission. This course will consist of 5 modules and 1 final project. Module availability is open and can be completed at the student’s individual pace. Projects and assignments will be completed in groups. Assignments will be due approximately every 1-2 weeks depending on the assignment and module availability. The final project will be due on Monday, April 15, and will be evaluated within 3 weeks of submission. Communication will take place primarily via email and professor announcements. At the end of the course, you would have learned the fundamentals of power systems economics and electricity markets.
